Last weekend the coveted International Charlemagne “Karlspreis” Prize in Aachen was awarded again in Aachen.  On Saturday, October 2, 2021, the solemn ceremony in honor of personalities and institutions who have made outstanding contributions to Europe and European unification took place in the coronation hall of the Aachen town hall.  This year the award was given to Klaus Johannis, the President of Romania, who “embodies the European canon of values, the strengthening of the European legal community and the common idea of ​​a European future in the East”.  According to tradition, the winner is also presented with the “black chest” from Lambertz.

The award was given in 1949 in the “Corona Legentium Aquensis” by Dr. Kurt Pfeiffer who brought it into being under the proclamation of 1949 with high representatives from the city administration, the technical university, the Catholic Church and urban politics and business.
